Caffeine, 4 habits that cost you 500 euros or more a year

Screw calm and get me a coffee

CAFFEINE

This is another highly addictive compound normally found in your morning coffee, tea, and energy drinks. Essentially, caffeine is one of the world's most widely and legally consumed drugs. It stimulates our central nervous system. In a smaller amount, it supposes to improve our physical and mental performance. Companies love them, because they are so addictive, that it guarantees the lifelong clients. Addiction and craving equal long-term profit.

However, I know it's boring to listen to negative effects on your health. In fact, caffeine has too many of the negative effects to cover this blog post. Also, it has some of the positive effects on your health too, specifically if you consume it in moderate and controlled amounts. However, it does not apply to most of us, because we do not like moderation. We, humans, are the creature of habits, urges and cravings. Think for a moment, is it you that control your coffee habit or is the habit who controls you? The easiest way to understand it, is that if you cannot stop drinking your coffee for a day, or a week, you addicted to your coffee. And as a result, it will cost you a nice amount of money in the longer term. And, in turn, a nice profit to one of your coffee shops.

Let have a look at the cost of this unhealthy habit to our finances. Ok so if we look at the average price of the cup of coffee in Ireland, it's about 3 euros. To simplify further, let's assume we buy one coffee per day in the coffee shop. Well, 3 euros doesn't seem a lot, what can you buy for this? 2 litres of petrol, 2 bus tickets, 2 kilos of bananas. Whatever it's small.

Let's examine the cost of this habit in the longer term; this is more interesting. For example, in 3 months it will cost you approx. 300 euros. That is a decent amount of money you probably could spend on a weekend break in Prague or Budapest, or maybe a short local yoga and wellness retreat. There are 365 days in a year, so just a cup of coffee every day will cost approx. a 1000 euros per year. Its 5000 euros in 5 years. Now that is a huge amount of money isn't? That is a nice used car! There you go, this is how much it cost, this innocent daily habit.

WARNING: THE PURPOSE OF THIS POST IS TO RAISE AWARENESS OF THE COST NOT TO STOP YOU DRINKING COFFEE. MODERATION IS THE KEY HAVE A COFFEE EVERY SECOND DAY OR ONLY ON THE WEEKENDS.
